i have no idea why i’m so addicted to this site but it’s great.
I have always craved to work in some sort of ministry. Whether it’s in an urban setting or travelling to the poverty stricken continent of Africa, I would love to just help people. I’ve never really done anything besides an “Urban Plunge” in Omaha and I absolutely loved it. Sure at the end of the day I was tired and kind of ready to be done, but while I was in it, I was in it.
My problem is that I dont feel like I’m the type of person who can be a leader in any facet of life, let alone a ministry. I would love to be able to help people on a daily basis, doing whatever it is that people need help with. Whether it’s repainting a homeless shelter or helping little old ladies carry groceries to their cars…I just want to help. What do I need in order to be the type of person who can be a leader?
Jenny and I have been going over our spiritual gifts and it really sticks out what I should be doing. I just don’t know if I have what it takes to be a leader. I’ve never really been one. Any suggestions?
We just got back from a relaxing evening. While Jenny was out leading a meeting for a missions trip to Mexico, I met with one of her students and then enjoyed a cup of coffee while reading “Through Painted Deserts” by Donald Miller. He never ceases to amaze me. In fact, it reminds me a lot of myself in the way I struggle with things. I’ll go over my struggles a bit later when i’m a bit more comfortable with this community, but along with Jenny, I don’t understand the church sometimes. I see this beautiful sanctuary that the church we go to has but yet they decide to build a new room to worship that serves as a basketball court/gym/theatre stage. Why not build a brand new church in a place around town that lacks good community? I would like to be in a community where my voice can be heard, where I’m not just lost in the sea of faces. I want to help, to be someone that you can cry with, to be an ear that will listen without any selfish motives…I just want to help. I’m new to all of this, so any advice would be great!
To end, I must say….chipotle is good, but man on man does it fill me. I still can’t believe that place is owned by mcdonalds.
good night and good luck.

Thanks for sharing these things, dude. I’m confident that, as you pursue God, God will give you new opportunities to bring life and love and hope to the people at your new job.

Isn’t it wild how God uses us sometimes? Your story about the co-worker reminded me of a pastor I know who calls such things “Divine Appointments”. It’s pretty sweet that he chooses to use us… keep your eyes open to more divine appointments.
